Togo
I took these photos in 1983, during a research trip about a WHO-project to fight "River Blindness" (Onchocercosis), a widely spread parasitic disease in the tropical belt of West Africa * . The photos of the festivity were taken in the regional capital Dapaong in the far north of Togo. The people gathered and performered to honor the visit of the German president Karl Carstens. The president of Togo at that time was Gnassingbé Eyadéma.
