LAST RESTS

Ever since I am photographing, I developed an affinity to graveyards. Below I put together selections of images which I captured - beside other places - @ a cremation in Kolkata (India) + a British Colonial Cemetery there, Kronberg (Germany), Barcelona, Basse-Terre (Guadeloupe), @ the former Soviet nuclear test area in Kazakhstan, Brasilia (Brazil), Venice, Guatemala, in Penang (Malaysia), and the outback of Australia.

Seit ich fotografiere, habe ich eine Affinität zu Friedhöfen entwickelt. Nachfolgend habe ich eine Auswahl von Bildern zusammengestellt, die ich u.a. bei einer Leichen-Verbrennung in Kolkata (Indien) + einen kolonial-britischen Friedhof dort, in Kronberg, Barcelona und Basse-Terre (Guadeloupe), auf dem ehemaligen sowjetischen Nuklear-Testgelände in Kasachstan, Brasilia (Brasilien), Venedig, Guatemala,in Penang (Malaysia) sowie im australischen Outback aufgenommen habe.

Penang Island (Malaysia), 2005

Although mostly vanished, there are still traces of the British colonial period to be found in Georgetown, the capital of Penang. Today, the island is dominated culturally by its Chinese majority. Penang’s cemeteries are providing good proofs for this history. The last series are taken on the former “Prisoner Island” Jerejak.
